The View From Below: A Reflection on the Book Half the Sky

It had been a Friday. Language Arts was my last class of the day and as I sat in my blue plastic chair staring blankly at the white board, all I could think about was the fact that my first week of the school year was over. I only had 38 more to go. "What do you guys know about Nicholas D. Kristof?" My teacher asked. The name rang a bell, a journalist of some sort but that was about it. "I have your first reading assignment of the year," she said, "the book is called Half the Sky." I sighed, groaned and moaned. A reading assignment in LA normally meant some dry poem or play that I would eventually be forced to over analyze. This time, however, was different.
